Susanna Viljanmaa: Thereminist

Susanna Viljanmaa is the Finnish pioneer of Theremin as a composer, performer, playing instructor and an inventor. She built her first Big Briar Etherwave in 2002 and has performed various concerts and movie concerts since. She is currently the only theremin playing instructor in Finland.

I’ll give a concert and a lecture about the theremin at the Jakomäki library May 2nd at 6pm.

I will perform as the soloist of Tapiolan Nuoret Sinfonikot on their Mayday eve concert, Sohvaperunoiden suosikit on Apr 30th, at 3pm and 5pm.

I have a concert at the Attic, Helsinki on Apr 26th. Queer/trans/nb only.

I performed a cinema concert for Gardiens de Phare / The Lighthouse Keepers (1928, FR) October 31st 2020 7 pm.

Past tours as a theremin cinema concert perfomer include the Creeping Terror tour (with Iik!! kauhuelokuvafestivaali since 2016 in five different cities, some of the multiple times, see the Orion event with reviews, Cinemare story and a PiF thread) and La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc (since 2019, see also a review). I also do concerts playing different original and cover songs on a theremin, prefering those songs that are usually not performed with a theremin.
